Texas Caregivers for Compromise is sharing short videos of our experiences and how the changes in Texas regulations, statute, and our constitution have made a difference in our loved ones lives OR WOULD HAVE had those changes only been made in time. These videos are in support of newly filed H.R.8331 by Congressional U.S. Representative John B. Larson (D-CT), and U.S. Representative Claudia Tenney (R-NY) and S.4280, the companion bill filed the the Senate by U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX).
Our fourth clip is about the effects of isolation protocols on my mother. Second only to death itself, my mother's greatest fear was being abandoned. It was a regular topic for her both prior to and during her descent into that hideous physical and emotional Alzheimer's hell that became her life. Maybe that's what drives me. Maybe knowing she suffered the unspeakable terror and agony of her disease all alone pushes me to keep working on this legislation because I cannot stomach the thought of another person living or dying with the feeling of utter abandonment.
We all need an emotional or physical champion sooner or later: someone who will help fight our battles and stand up for us whether we are capable of asking for help or not. We each can be that champion. Long-term care residents are in particular need of that "essential caregiver" to check on medications, keep an eye on their day to day care, and look after their health and safety because even unintentional neglect is deadly.
We hope our legislators will see these clips but we also hope our community of constituents will be inspired by them to encourage Congress to support this important legislation - H.R.8331 and S.4280 - to prevent forced isolation in the future and the devastating effects of those protocols.
We are Texas Caregivers for Compromise and we are #notgoingaway.
