The Essential Caregiver Act - More Than One Kind of Lifesaver

On February 21, 2023, the Senate Finance Committee held a marathon appropriations hearing on Article II, the Health and Human Services part of SB-1 (budget). Senator Lois Kolkhorst was quick to point out her continued pride in SB-25 and its unanimous approval by the Texas legislature. But here is something maybe we have not thought much about. We all know the bill is a lifesaver for residents in long-term care but maybe it hasn’t occurred to us that the work this group did - introducing the concept, relentlessly working for its adoption, promoting Prop 6, etc. - also saved some facilities as well. Or… if we see another pandemic, maybe the industry itself. #notgoingaway
